Ferguson said the band played at many different events, most recently A Day in the Domain on March 6.

They also play at Anzac Day in Te Aroha annually, which Ferguson has attended every year for 45 years.

The pipe band, which wears the McLeod of Harris Tartan, was formed in 1935, with 145 foundation members.

The band played in many areas including South Auckland, Paeroa, Waihi, Morrinsville, Matamata and Cambridge.

In 1936, a set of Robertson silver and ivory bagpipes was donated to the band by Sir William Noble of London, who was past chief of the London Scottish Society.

Band member Hazel Mold said the band still has the set of pipes.

"Over the years, the band was very competitive, winning many trophies and shields," she said.

In 1998, the band changed its name to the Pipes and Drums of Thames Valley due to a growing membership that covered a wider area.
