What is  Tartaric acid  ?
 
Tartaric acid is a white crystalline organic acid that occurs naturally in many plants, most notably in grapes.
   It's salt, potassium bitartrate, commonly known as cream of tartar, develops naturally in the process of
winemaking. 
 
It is commonly mixed with sodium bicarbonate and is sold as baking powder used as a leavening agent in
food preparation. The acid itself is added to foods as an antioxidant and to impart its distinctive sour taste.

Function of Tartaric acid

Widely used in food, medicine, chemistry and light industry, etc.
 
Mainly used in manufacture tartaric acid salts,such as potassium sodium tartrate,and can be used as beer
foaming agent.
 
Also applied in tanning, photo, glass, enamel and telecom materials industries.It's acidity is 1.3 times as
citric acid,so especially as acidifying agent for grape juice.
